Given that Mary & Amram m in 1803 also not likely that Eliza is an illegitimate child of Mary's

I haven't managed to work out how the witnesses are related to the married couple, but they are:

    Ellenor Davis
    George Hadley

but this family would not expain Noah Hill as Amram did not die until 1848
Yes, this is what bothers me also. Thomas Henry Smith and Eliza Gwynn marry in 1845, and this is where she lists her father as Noah Hill, miner. Amram dies three years later. I sense my Eliza is not related to Amram at all. Puzzling.

    Hello Bunty,

I don't know whether you solved your puizzle but I may be able to help.

The Eliza Gwynn that is talked about (Daughter of Amram and Mary Pugh) is my 3x Great Aunt.

Amram (Eliza's father) had a stepmother who raised him and she was an Eleanor Hill who married Amram's father (Robert Gwynn). Amram also had a sister called Jane Gwynn.

This has probably just confused you further but hoping that it may help in some small way!
